Job Description As a Thermo-Mechanical AIT Manufacturing Engineer you will be assigned to the Satellites & Payloads Product Line and tasked with specific projects managed transversally by a Lead Project Manager. You will be integrated into the ME workforce within a multi‑functional project team, collaborating to develop, industrialise, produce and deliver finished, fully functional products to end customers in the Space sector. Satellites Product Line in Spacecraft Production Spain comprises a set of well‑established Space products in the Airbus Space Systems portfolio, devoted to Earth Observation Science & Exploration (e.g., Paz 2, LSTM, Aeolus, MeTop), Telecommunication & Navigation Systems Programmes (e.g., Adler, SpainSat, Galileo) and potentially Constellation Programmes. The purpose of the Thermo‑Mechanical AIT Process Engineer is to enable the implementation of the Manufacturing System in the relevant AIT domain for the project(s) assigned. Key accountabilities include:
- Collaborate with Engineering domains during development to ensure design solutions are feasible and fit the industrial system.
- Bring industrial expertise to multi‑functional teams working on AIT projects within the Satellites Product Line.
- Gain awareness and understanding of the full set of Engineering technical information to prepare the Manufacturing Dossier, ensuring traceability (Design‑As‑Planned).
- Analyse and optimise manufacturing technologies and capabilities available at Space Spain Plant or extended industrial partners and suppliers.
- Ensure the feasibility of Assembly, Integration & Testing of the thermal, mechanical and electrical hardware.
- Ensure material and processes selection lists in the Manufacturing Dossier fit in the AIT execution works allocated to the project.
- Define the Manufacturing Bill of Material (MBOM) and provide material requirements to the Supply Chain.
- Support the project AIT manager and production staff during shop floor execution of breadboards, Qualification and Flight Models, including on‑site assistance at customer sites, spaceports, or supplier facilities.
- Build process definition for AIT activities, including: defining the planned structure with Engineering & Mechanical Design Office; characterising the AIT work sequence and key industrial parameters as per Airbus OES guidelines; identifying and specifying requirements for industrial assets (jigs, tools, tooling, machines); integrating quality inputs such as Control Plans to ensure product conformity; considering PFMEA and health & safety regulations and local counsel advice; scheduling and delivery rate constraints; resource and means optimisation; and economic aspects.
- Lead work‐preparation activities for the project(s); release Systems Mechanical & Electrical Integration Procedures and incorporate them into comprehensive Work Orders as per build process layout.
- Foster regular feedback loops with the Production & Quality Team.
- Support continuous improvement on the shop floor by providing rational conclusions based on work preparation expertise and lessons learned exercises.
- Provide technical advice in budget preparation, CapEx planning, and cost improvement measures.
- Develop and deploy capability when new product or process is introduced, supporting and influencing qualification campaigns with Material, Process and Design departments. Skills
- Aerospace, Telecommunications, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering.
- From 3 to 5 years of experience in the AIT (Assembly, Integration & Testing) production field, preferably in AIT Space or Manufacturing Engineering.
- Nice to have: Knowledge of CATIA/Delmia and programming (Google Apps Script).
