About the role We now have the opportunity for a Backend Software Developer to join our Tech Department. You will be based in our new Tech Hub & Innovation Center in Alicante, backed by over 1,700 technologists worldwide and powered by one of Europe’s largest IoT platforms. We’re building something big, and we’re just getting started in Alicante. Your future team: You will join the IT Billing Systems & Digital Contracts team and play a key role in building a brand‑new platform from scratch. There is no legacy: we are designing and developing everything with modern architecture, including hexagonal patterns, event‑driven components, and a cloud‑based relational database. This new platform will be deployed across our 18 countries, so we’re looking for someone comfortable exploring new territory. With us you will:
- Collaborate on architectural decisions (products, SaaS, cloud) and help define non-functional requirements.
- Ensure adherence to best practices in development, integration, testing, security, and company guidelines.
- Support and maintain production environments, ensuring reliability, performance, and service continuity.
- Hands-on development, ensuring timely delivery of features and continuous value to end users.
- Technical analysis and solution design, proposing implementation alternatives from a backend perspective. Candidate profile Technical Skills: Mandatory requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Strong Java backend development background with experience in enterprise-scale systems.
- More than 5 years of experience with RESTful APIs and service-oriented architectures.
- Solid knowledge of object-oriented design, clean code principles, and backend architecture patterns.
- Over 5 years of experience with relational and non SQL databases, particularly SQL Server and MongoDB.
- Experience with:
- Visual Studio Code or similar IDEs.
- Static code analysis and quality tools (e.g. SonarQube or equivalent).
- Dependency and package management tools.
- Version control systems (Git-based workflows).
- Experience working in Agile environments. Will be a plus:
- Exposure to frontend technologies such as Angular and Node.js, with a strong focus on backend–frontend integration.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, including Jenkins.
- Experience maintaining or modernizing legacy enterprise applications, common in long‑running billing platforms.
- Understanding of MVC or layered architecture patterns applied to backend systems. Soft skills
- Excellent communication skills, with ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, combined with a adaptable and collaborative mindset.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a results-driven approach.
- Ability to analyse, synthesise, and respond effectively in high-pressure environments with shifting priorities and tight deadlines.
